I hate hijacking aibhinn's thread - sorry! - so, despite myself, I'll be brief.
There's a lot of things I read that, as a straight male, surprise people - OT3 just isn't one of them.
I don't think it's cute and I have a lot of trouble wrapping my mind around it - three people loving each other equally? Sex is one thing, but love? Yeah, no.
Aliens and, heck, a time-travelling phone box aside, to appreciate something I see or read, it needs to be realistic. I need to be able to connect with characters on an emotional level. To do that, their emotions need to seem real to me. I can appreciate slash without blinking an eye, but OT3 just isn't something I can get behind.
